What is the Mesa County
Enterprise Zone?
The Colorado Economic
Development Commission (EDC) designates certain economically
distressed areas of the state as Enterprise Zones. Mesa
County’s Enterprise Zone program helps turn economic
distress into economic vitality. Mesa County’s
Enterprise Zones provide various tax credits and incentives
to encourage the expansion or location or private enterprise
and quality jobs in distressed areas. Enterprise Zone
tax credits and incentives are powerful tools that help
community partners advance the economic development
goals of Mesa County.
What tax credits are
available?
- Businesses located in the Enterprise
Zone (map)
may claim State tax credits for a variety of activities,
including: Investment in equipment; jobs created;
employee training; employer sponsored health insurance;
rehabilitation of vacant buildings; and research and
development activities.
- Taxpayers who donate cash
or in-kind merchandise and/or services to an approved
Enterprise Zone Contribution Project may claim State
tax credits for their donation.
How do I claim these
credits?
You must fill out an
Enterprise Zone Certification form. You submit this
form to the Business Incubator Center for signature,
then when the form is returned to you, you file it with
your yearly Colorado State Income Tax Forms.
How do I know
if a business is located in the Enterprise Zone?
In order to claim the Enterprise
Zone credits, businesses and non-profit approved contribution
projects must be located in the Mesa County Enterprise
Zone. To verify whether or not a business is located
in the Enterprise Zone, you can visit this Mesa
County GIS map link or contact
the Business Incubator Center.
How do I know
which projects are approved for Enterprise Zone contributions?
The complete list of approved
Mesa County Enterprise Zone contribution projects is
located on the Contribution
Project Donor Benefits page.
